A few tips can help you get the best out of your site revenue.

Make your site easy to navigate. If viewers easily get lost, you may have lost them altogether. Design your site firstly for yourself, then consider if all ages and genders would like your site design. Browse a few different sites yourself before designing and see what turns you off with some and what you like about others. Ask your kid brother or sister and your Mum or Dad what they think of certain sites. You should then be able to achieve a decent balance that would appeal to most visitors to your site.

Be sure to have plenty of descriptive content. Content as in words, not just pictures. This will allow the search engines to find you easily. For instance if your site is about flowers and you have some pictures you would like to show, then take time to find out more about each flower, the botanical name, where it grows best etc. People searching for that flower will end up at your site for information. This is just a simple example but I am sure you get the "picture" ;)

When you have your site uploaded and visitors start arriving, then (with the help of a stats tracker), see which pages within your site are a little more popular than others. This will help you in your choice of ads to place.

I will cover the various ad companies and ways you can monetise your site later. But you can start thinking about the type of ads you would like. It will depend mostly on your content, which niche you are targetting, demographics and many other things. It can be trial and error for many of us, but some just manage to "accidentally" find the right ad company from the start. I would guess that those lucky people did a lot of homework and research before they dived in.
